Snow Peak Campfield

Creating a digital world in tandem with the physical build of Snow Peak’s first US Campground

Our Approach

As Japanese camping brand Snow Peak developed their first US-based campsite in coastal Washington, we crafted the digital presence for this upcoming destination.

Campfield offers a four-season outdoor experience designed to connect campers with nature's rhythms and one another.

Our brand essence, storytelling, and web experience initiative aimed to inspire year-round visits by showcasing the changing seasons and providing tools for campers to curate and book their ideal camping getaway.

“Snow Peak's ethos is rooted in the Japanese concept of kacho fugetsu, or way of life with nature.”

— Tohru Yamai, Snow Peak CEO and Executive Chairman

Impact

  • We generated excitement and interest in Campfield prior to the physical site's opening.
  • We bridged the future hospitality experience with Snow Peak's existing e-commerce through rentals, shoppable gear, and an onsite Campstore.
  • We expanded the Snow Peak brand to a broader customer base through immersive design, showcasing the brand's ethos and product lines.

We wove the beauty of seasonality throughout: year-round travel guides, rotating food and beverage offerings, and dynamic photography showcasing the campsite in all four seasons.

Detour

Designing immersive geolocated storytelling to connect people with place

Our Approach

Detour pioneered immersive, story-rich audio tours that leveraged device geolocation to orchestrate cinematic walking experiences in cities worldwide.

Through research, design, and creative collaboration, we created an app that enhanced travelers' experiences in physical spaces.

Our goal was to immerse people in their surroundings through layers of augmented reality, connecting them deeply with each location.

Haptic feedback for cueing turn by turn

Impact

  • We designed an “in-pocket app” for iPhone and Apple Watch, leveraging audio and haptic feedback for navigation to reduce distractions.
  • We conducted in-field research studies to test experiential outcomes, resulting in seamless touring UX and positive traveler feedback.
  • We led holistic creative direction for Detour's brand execution, including brand photography and marketing materials across digital and physical platforms.
  • We transformed the way people interact with cities as locals and travelers (+ inspiring a new tour at San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art before acquisition by Bose).

Better Place Forests

Bringing the tranquil spirit of memorial forests to life in the digital world

Our Approach

Better Place Forests offers a meaningful alternative to traditional cemeteries, transforming end-of-life planning.

Instead of a tombstone, you can choose a tree in a protected memorial forest as your final resting place.

Our research-driven web design initiative sought to capture the essence of the physical forest experience in the digital realm. We aimed to support the emotional needs of customers as they explore the sensitive topics of death and dying.

“For me, it’s the living that I feel here, and I’ve not felt that in a cemetery.”

— Jenny H., Better Place Forests customer

Impact

  • We designed wayfinding and UX to support various entry points—from discovery to purchase—accommodating prospective customers at different stages of their end-of-life planning journeys.
  • We improved discoverability reducing the need for upfront sales calls with representatives, qualifying prospective leads earlier.
  • We created a scalable design system to support expanding brand content and new forest locations.
  • The site earned recognition as a Webby Award Honoree in the Sustainability & Environment category.
